Host a tea party with the cutest modern toy tea sets for kids
Updated April 16, 2021
After searching long and hard, here’s the roundup of the best tea sets for girls and boys. These toy tea sets are so cute you won’t mind if they get left out. And with opened-ended play, there’s so much to love about this iconic toy!
Toy tea sets come in four main materials:
- Wood
- Metal
- Plastic/silicone
- Ceramic/porcelain
Unless it’s been treated, wood is typically for imaginative play only. Some metal sets allow real liquids. And plastic, silicone and ceramic sets are the best options for holding fluids. I opted for this wooden toy tea set for our daughter–it’s so charming and I can’t wait to custom paint it! But down the road when she is older we will invest in a porcelain set.
For some reason a lot of sets only come with two cups, but that seriously limits play! So I did my best to find sets with four cups. If you need more than four cups, the wooden sets on Etsy usually have an option to order as many extra cups as you need. So cheers to your tea parties both big and small.

Wooden Tea Sets
Starting off strong with a darling toy tea set by ScandiBorn. This wooden set makes my Scandi-loving heart go pitter patter!
For a set with less peices I adore this toy tea set. The tray is beautifully painted and the refined colors keep this set very classy.
After months of looking, I finally found it–THE tea set for Little Miss Toddler who decided to turn two.
Confession time. I have a serious soft spot for hand-carved wooden toys. And tiny tea sets. I’m actually thinking of starting a collection… Yes, yes, this could be a very good thing.
Anyway.
Friends, this find was golden!
And I felt extra validated when this tea set won the 2020 Etsy Design Award! Above is the award winner, but I went with the unpainted option. The blank slate of the raw wood is tantalizing. Do I paint it to look like this Anthropology tea pot (pictured below) OR paint it like the award winning set OR leave it simple and natural?
Update: We’ve had this set for over a year now and I still adore it. When a peice of cake got chewed by my sister’s dog the seller even shipped a replacement to me. We do have some teeth marks from our toddler on some of the cake peices, but overall it’s held up well. I also love that I can order as many extra cups as I want. The cake is probably my favorite part though–it’s a fraction puzzle for my toddler, and so beautiful. I definitely keep this in the toy rotation closet to pull out regularly for stuffed animal tea parties!
Alright, alright, back to more adorable tea sets.
Like this one! Except this is technically a coffee set. But who cares? It passes as a modern tea set to me. Plus, the insides are interchangeable, so it doubles as a tea set and a chic puzzle. Genius.
Metal Toy Tea Sets
If you want to try out a chip-free tin set, this citrus one is a winner. And the tray and cookies sure make for a cute added bonus!
Another shatter-free and gender neutral option is this stainless steel toy tea set. Plus, no need for a storage basket with the convenient stand.
These tin sets do run on the small side, which makes them great for young children. The floral pattern on this set is sweet and fresh. And with a coat of clear spray paint, that darling carrying case should last a while.
Prettiest Plastic and Silicone Tea Sets
If plastic is your material of choice, this set is sweet and simple. Plus, it’s made from 100% recycled plastic. It’s a great option for an outdoor all-terrain kind of toy tea set.
I was stoked to see this toy tea set back in stock! It usually sales out ridiculously fast. Gorgeous colors and super kid friendly with 100% BPA free silicone–talk about a win! If it’s sold out again, check on their rose mix and blue mix sets.
Ceramic and Porcelain Tea Sets
Ah, the truly iconic ceramic tea set. This set in particular is the perfect mix of childhood innocence and classy elegance. I believe there is value in giving children the opportunity to treat items with respect. But, if an accidental chip does happen, this Etsy seller has additional replacement cups for sale! When our girls are older, this will be the perfect set for them. Or maybe the pink polkadot one at the bottom. Decisions!
If you’re drawn towards vintage sets, this is a great option! But definitely check out Etsy and Ebay to snatch up some unique vintage finds. Just be careful to not accidentally end up with a doll-sized set when looking for toy tea sets.
Imagine drinking out of this magical teacup at a fairy garden party. (Add that to mommy-daughter bucket list). For slightly older children these cups are just perfect! Check out this matching flower teapot to complete your whimsical set.
And finally, a classic ceramic toy tea set with sweet feminine details. This set is a great option for tea parties with real liquids, and even comes with a sugar and cream containers, as well as a secure storage tote.

Wooden Strawberry Cake
This tiny little cake is adorable! I ordered mine unpainted to save money and customize it. But this strawberry version is SO sweet. I love the quality of Julia’s work.
Storage Case
If your set doesn’t come with a storage container, check out this sweet woven one! Or find a vintage floral metal lunch box (or DIY your own with this one). Other options include a woven baskets with a lid, a patterned makeup bag, a fabric basket with handles, or this adorable house shaped basket with a strap–you name it!
Wooden Dessert Tower
This dessert tower would add such charm to any tea party! Tender Leaf Toys also has an adorable birdie tea stand. And if you’re looking for something more frugal, check out this cupcake set with interchangable velcro tops.
DIY Wooden Accessories
If you’re feeling crafty, pick up a package of wooden circles from Hobby Lobby. Use their weekly 40% off coupon and score some DIY cookies for less than $3! Draw little dots on for chocolate chip cookies, or add paper frosting (tutorial found here). Other fun DIYs to try include wooden lemon rounds and wooden tea bags.
Well, that’s the round up! Anyone else wanting to start their own mini tea set collection? 😉 I hope you and your kiddos love playing with your toy tea set, whichever one(s) you choose.
Cheers to many tea party memories!
