Harry Potter Menu
Drinks 🍺
Hot Butterbeer
Gourmet hot butterbeer tastes like creamy & milky butterscotch in a cup. If you’re feeling fancy try our hot butterbeer recipe which uses a homemade butterscotch sauce. Seriously SO good.
- 1 tsp butter extract
- 1 tsp caramel extract
- 2 tsp real vanilla extract, or some vanilla bean paste
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 2.5 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2-4 Tbsp hot butterscotch topping (minus the coffee extract)
Cook the extracts in a hot pan to cook off the alcohol, add the butter, then add liquids and hot butterscotch to taste. If needed an immersion blender can emulsify the butter. Serve warm.
Pumpkin Juice
This tastes like fall in a cup 😍🍁🍎
- 2 bottles of Simply apple juice or 3 or 4 L of fresh apple cider, depending on how concentrated you like the fall flavor
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 15 oz can of pumpkin
- 2 tsp of vanilla, or vanilla bean
- 2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice

Fluffy’s Slobber
A hilarous name for water 😆
Savory Food
Bludgers
Costco meatballs in a crockpot.
Basilisk Blood
Marinara dipping sauce.
Avocado Kedavra & Flesh-Eating Slug Salsa
Gaucamole—perfect time to break out the mortar and pestal and make the authentic Mexican guac. And salsa is always a classic party food.
Wizard Hats
Organic blue corn and regular tortilla chips for a fun pop of contrast.
Forbidden Forest Mushroom Caps
Mrs. Weasley’s Rolls
Bacon-Wrapped Beetles & Wolfsbane Reduction
Bacon-wrapped dates with cream cheese and almonds, dipped in a balsamic vinegar reduction. Next time I would skip the almonds, or use pecans instead because some guests thought the almonds were date pits.
Celestial Charcuterie
Sharp white cheddar cut into star shapes, with blackberries and blueberries. Easy and on point for the astronomy tower theme.

Treats 🧁
Constellation Crispies
I already have a weakness for rice krispie treats, but then I discovered the dangerous trick to use browned butter. I will never go back. Browned butter rice krispies take the classic treat and elevate it to foodie standards.
- 1 stick browned butter (salted Danish Creamery brand)
- 1 lb or 16oz of mini marshamllows (either Jet Puffed, or vegan Dandies if you’re sensitive to corn syrup)
- 7 cups of puffed rice cereal
These are best made the day of, and come together quickly. For tips on how to make the best rice krispie treats get the recipe HERE.
I use a star cookie cutter and displayed them on sturdy cardboard wrapped in black kraft paper and secured them with skewers to make the Big Dipper shape.
Chocolate Billywig Stingers
Asian markets have some of the tastiest treats. Japanese chocolate is way better than American—just try their Kitkats and you’ll taste what I mean. I believe this brand was Korean, but any chocolate cookie covered biscuit stick such as the popular Pocky will make a tasty edible Billywig Stinger. We used strawberry Pocky as fairy wands for our Fairy Unicorn party.
Cauldron Creams
Chocolate cream pie in mini cauldrons. 😍 Base of oreo cookie crust, followed by fudge layer, topped with chocolate mousse and bubbly sprinkles.
Celestial Decor
Bring the night sky indoors with 3D stars, constellation posters, a DIY giant crescent moon, vintage moon art from Temu, and a ceiling of stars.
I brushed off my oragami skills and made most of the stars using this method and this one for the eight point star. The others came from Target’s Christmas ornament section.
Harry Potter Party Games & Activities
For an adult Harry Potter party it’s a good idea to have one passive activity for them to do while chatting and waiting for the other guests to arrive. And then at least one active game for entertainment value.
O.W.L. Exam
A Harry Potter quiz is the perfect passive activity. You can find one about trivia from the books, OR you can subscribe and get access to my free printable library for a legit Harry Potter quiz that has questions that would be on a real O.W.L exam.
Make your own quills by taping pheasant feathers to pens.
Potions Class
Let adults make their own mocktails/cocktails for potions class. Get the details from Shelley Marie’s party.
Active Harry Potter Party Games for Adults
Hagrid’s Crossbow Competition
Honestly the crossbow stopped shooting accurately pretty quickly, but it was fun while it lasted. We found ours at the checkout line at JC Penny, but you get it from Kohl’s or Hammer & Axe Co. It made a cool prop for my husband’s Hagrid costume too.
Unicorn Duels
This was the hit of our party. I chose to duel my pregnant sister and we couldn’t stop laughing. (See clip from video at top of blog).
How to play: tape a balloon to each shoulder then try to knock one of your opponent’s balloons off with your unicorn hat.
May your adult Harry Potter party bring all the nostalgia. Happy Halloween.
