We like to make our girly party themes a little more boy-friendly, so this year we went with a dinosaur tea party birthday theme.
BUT, instead of the usual pink & gold dinosaur theme for girls, we used French blue and China white + chinoiserie (a.k.a. that pretty hand painted blue and white pattern with florals and birds and such) plus… dinosaurs, because hello gorgeous. Dinosaurs can be classy too.

Blue and White Dinosaur Tea Party Inspo Pics
Sigh. I could dream in blues & whites all day.
Dinosaur Tea Party Invitation
Meet the Dinos
Blue and white dino figures were hard to come by, or they cost over $100…
So I made my own.
Meet our dino clan:
Mrs. Sumpkins
Rexy (Sexy Rexy by those closest)
Lady Trina
Gerald
Mr. Griswald (sometimes known for his grumpy nature)
Winnow
And all are watched over by Mama T, who was made by someone else’s hands, but is no less loved.
See if you can spot our little friends in the party photos.
Savory Dinosaur Party Food
Every party needs some salty to balance out the sweet. Check out these fun healthy dino foods. Your mom friends will appreciate you not sugaring up their kids. Or, at least offering some healthy dinosaur party food options to balance out the sugar rush.
Cucumber Dino Claws
Cute and simple. Cut two grooves out of an English cucumber and then slice.
Dino Tail Cucumber Sandwiches
Could it be a tea party without cucumber sandwiches? These dino tail ones are adorable and so refreshing! To make the cucumber ‘spikes’ that stick out of the sandwich cut a few slices of cucumber in quarters. Then lay the the cucumber triangles so they sticking out along the long edge of the triangle to look like a spiky dino tail.
Find the recipe I used for the filling (hint: it has fresh lemon zest in it) HERE.
Meteorites in Molten Glaze
Meatballs, aka the quintessential party food. Give them the tongue-in-cheek name of meteorites for your dino party. Then glaze them in classic teriyaki, or you can leave them plain (less mess with kids), or drench them with your sauce of choice.
Tip: Keep warm in the crockpot.
Mount St. Hummus
I love how this one turned out! We used nano tape (my party tape of choice because it’s so strong ans sticky) to securely stack 3 bowls together and then covered with homemade hummus. If hummus is not your thing, then guacamole, refried beans & cheese, or a cheeseball would also make a delicious edible volcano.
Notice the ‘Stegosaurus Spines’ in the photo above for dipping.

Drinks
We got a bunch of sturdy glass teacups (we’ve never had one break) to make the kids feel fancy at their dinosaur tea party. We went with glass to avoid any chipping of porcelain. And if one did break, it wouldn’t be a big deal because they aren’t very expensive.
Or, if you want something more in the medium size, these glass espresso cups or these darling ceramic espresso cups would be perfect.
Ice Aged Water
The timeless drink. 😉
Taste of the Deep
Make a gorgeous blue lemonade out of butterfly pea flower tea.
Butterfly pea flowers are one of the best sources of natural blue food dye, plus have a lot of health benefits, and they make for a fun science experiment for kids. The deep blue tea will turn purple when citrus is added to it! Make an iced tea or butterfly pea flower lemonade.
Tip: It has a bit of a grass smell when you’re steeping it, but the taste is mild/bland. Make into refreshing lemonade by sweetening with sugar ahead of time, then let the kids add some lemon to their teacup for some color-changing fun!
Baker Creek
Dinosaur Tea Party Desserts
Would it be a tea party without dainty sweets?
Prehistoric Peanut Butter Cookies
My sister made these dairy-free peanut butter cookies with plant butter. I’m usually a butter fan, but these might be better with the plant butter. They are addicting. And adorable.
Just make sure to underbake them so they stay soft. Sooo yummy.
Mini Strawberry Volcanoes
These are so easy to make and ridiculously adorable. Have I used that word too much yet? I have a soft spot for mini themed foods apparently.
The ‘dirt’ is blended oreos. And the white tips are my favorite white chocolate (Ghirardehlli premium white chocolate bar) melted and drizzled/dipped. White chocolate won’t lose its shape after an hour like whip cream would. Yum!
Tea-Rex Tea Cakes
These silicone teacup cupcake liners make eating muffins and cupcakes so fancy. We did healthier carrot cake muffins with cream cheese frosting, but now I’m wishing we’d done our new favorite blueberry muffins instead.
Whatever muffin you decide on, they will look all dressed up and ready to party in these liners.
Royal Copenhagen Cake
My talented friend Heidi made our cake this year & we topped it with fresh flowers from the garden.
Triceratops Eggs
Costco & Amazon have these delicious probiotic yogurt-covered strawberry snacks called Yoggies that my girls love. (And if we’re being honest, that I munch on too).
We served them in the cutest Kate Aspen triceratops dish, aka Mama T, which is unfortunately discontinued, but sometimes you can find it on Etsy. The delicate golden spoon is from Anthropology.
Dig for Bones
Blend up graham crackers and let the kids dig for some ancient edible fossils.
Tip: If you can’t find yogurt covered pretzels, white chocolate covered pretzels work too.

Dinosaur Party Decorations
How do you make a tea party more boy-friendly? Tie in your dinosaur tea party theme by mixing a volcano playhouse with an elegant blue and white tea party place setting of course. Oh, and lots of active games. 😉
(Before decoupage teapot makeover)
Volcano playhouse! Made from kraft paper, nano tape, and 8 ft bamboo poles.
Party like it’s 68 million years ago.

Dinosaur Party Games and Activities
Dino Coloring Page
It’s nice to have one or two activities for when kids first show up. Make it easy on yourself and go with a coloring page. I used this free dino coloring page.
Dino Dig Bucket Decorating
We used watercolor dinosaur stickers ( you’ll need 1 pkg per 6 ish kids) and they could pick 2 dinosaurs and 3 other stickers to decorate their dino dig buckets. We used these gold metal pails from Walmart’s party/wedding section, just like we used in our mermaid & pirate party and I still love them because they are so affordable and classy.

*Storybook Dino Hunt*
This was our main dinosaur party activity and it was a huge hit. It was half storytime, half dinosaur scavenger hunt. Get all the playful details HERE, including what we used for our massive dino dig pit.
Candy Dinosaur Pinata
For our grand finale we had an inflatable dinosaur costume with candy taped on it for the kids to chase. Yep, you heard me. The kids got to chase down a dinosaur. Covered in treats. It was epic.
By the end, the kids were hugging the candy dinosaur and thanking her for the visit. It was hilarious. Find more tips about the candy dinosaur chase in the storybook dinosaur hunt post.
Dinosaur Balloon Stomp
And finally, want to make kids happy? Give them balloons.
While we waited for parents to pick their kids up, we tied a balloon on each of the kids’ ankles. Then we turned on some music and let them try to stomp each other’s balloons. Gauranteed entertainment every time. I’ve played the balloon stomp game with adults and it’s a blast, no matter the age.
Overall this was such a fun party.
